The UAE has so far been able to contain the spread of COVID-19 : daily recorded cases are dropping and most of those infected
have recovered. This is due to the widescale screening launched by the health authorities. According to the latest statistics, so
far more than 3.5 million COVID-19 tests have been conducted. This prompted the World Health Organization to praise the
healthcare system in the UAE in view of its timely and proficient response to the virus outbreak.

The Ministry of Health and Prevention has early taken precautionary measures that helped in preventing the spread of the virus,
enjoying full support of the leadership. H H Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy
Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces asserted that “Safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our land, people and
those who make the UAE their home is our responsibility.” It is this spirit of responsibility that helped the UAE to combat spread
of the virus. We should perhaps here also express our appreciation and praise to the sacrifices of frontline workers including
doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians as well as security and emergency staff, cleaners and volunteers who helped protecting
                us from this vicious virus.

We realize that the strict precautionary measures taken early and those still in place had their impact on the business community.
That is why the federal and local authorities have offered numerous economic stimuli designed to alleviate the repercussions of
COVID-19 on their business. In this respect the government of Sharjah launched a stimulus package to support both companies
and individuals. The package reflected the government’s commitment to enhance the continuity of development in the various
business fields and mitigate the severity of the current economic and social impacts during this critical period.

We will read in this July issue of Al Tijara that apart from the above economic stimulus, the Sharjah government has also injected
AED 4 billion into the banks to further support businesses affected by the COVID-19 onslaught.

On its part, the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry is playing an effective role in extending of its support to the business
community. We will read in this issue about the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Sharjah Chamber and Abu
Dhabi Exports Office (ADEX). The Chamber’s partnership with ADEX will enable Sharjah businesses to obtain financing facilities
from ADEX for their exports abroad.

Read the above and many other stories and articles in this July issue of Al Tijara.

                Happy Reading!
